A Walk in the Sunset of Life

As you prepare to travel the Rainbow Turnpike, understand that you are not alone. This is an excellent opportunity to redirect your life and to share the wonderful moments that you have amassed. Seek out others and encourage them to be part of the "savannah generation" by sharing their knowledge with others. In other words, be part of a brigade that wants to give back to the younger generation.

This book is my answer to retirement. It is not all academic; it is personal. It is a fun filled journey offering suggestions so that the younger generation will not make some of the mistakes we gray birds have made on our journey to the retirement pasture.

Dr. Seunarine has eliminated the anxiety of retirement through user friendly anecdotes and scientific data. Smooth travel to Zion! Meldrina Bernard, MSW, LCSW.

If the measure of a book is determined by how much it stretches a reader's thinking, then I hope that A Walk in the Sunset of Life, is immeasurable. Dale Averill, President, Sista Dale Designs.

How many of you remember the "Pick - a - Box" show on Radio Trinidad? Ah catched the Point Encyclopedia off guard; ah stun Showboat... Pick - a- Box was a show that we heard every Monday night on Radio Trinidad. The person who was selected "was asked a number of questions of a general nature." If you answer all correctly, "your prize was a Bosch refrigerator, a return trip to Jamaica, a sewing machine, a cash prize or a "booby prize" (Shell Trinidad Topics Vol. II No. 57. February 8, 1957).

"Did you know about Lover’s Lane in the guava patch next to Techier Village? Man ah tell yuh, when we go to pick guava for we mother to make jam and guava cheese, we used to climb dem trees and before we could get back down, a car would pull up with a man and woman in it. Yuh know how much married man used to spend time in dey? Ah eh calling no names but dem know who dem is. Dem woman know, too" (Billy Singh  9/21/08).

How Much Do You Love Your... Dada, Mama, Nana?

So what’s up with the title of this book? I used to play a game with my daughter called “How much do you love your Dada?” The intent was to get her to say “one.” The reason being that “one” is infinite. As she played along, she would call out numbers such as “million zillionth hundredth” but never “one.” We would rumble and I would have her laughing and wrestling me until she finally gave up by saying “one.” The lesson here goes further than “wrestling /playing.” It shows the love and affection that exists between us and more importantly, the bond we share. We also established Trust -- which would be used in the future. You could play the same game whether you are the Mama, Nana, or foster parent.

In Jah's Hands

Some non Rasta believe that Rastafari "has lost its light". There have been attempts to blind side we but Rasta have expectedly known that there will always be those who think they know us better than we know ourselves. Some have even attempted to create their own brand of Rastafari calling it Christafari resulting in confusion within some camps. For potential new wannabees to overstand (understand) the fundamentals of Rastafari, so called prophets of doom have bombarded the cyberspace and have published their cacophony rampantly adding to the mass confusion/hysteria. Nevertheless, from this invasion, Rasta will build a tower towards the heaven and in it spread their message as they overcome the evils and frustrations of Babylon. One thing in certain, they cannot drive us away anymore.... "The people themselves must come to realize their own difficulties in the development of their communities and try to solve them by collective participation, following an order of priority and taking their potentiality into account. It is well known to you all that recognizing one's problems and striving hard to challenge them is a mark of an attempt at self - sufficiency." African / Caribbean / Religious / Rastafari Studies

"Since nobody can interfere in the realm of God we should tolerate and live side by side with those of other faiths. In the mystic tradition of the different religions we have a remarkable unity of spirit... While the different religions in their historic forms bind us to limited groups and militate against the development of loyalty to the world community, the mystics have already stood for the fellowship of humanity... No one should question the faith of others, for no human being can judge of the ways of God.”

"...that until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; that until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation; that until the colour of a man’s skin is of no significance than the color of his eyes; that until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; that until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion to be pursued but never attained...; until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and goodwill; until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; until that day, the African will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil...”

What a delight! From start to finish, I felt the need (or beauty) of the pictures you paint.

--Karen Loughran, Teacher

Stories Meh Moddha Told Meh is a valuable document. The author has given these stories a colloquial texture... I am convinced that everyone exploring these pages will hear his/her own mother’s voice relating these stones.

--Rev. G. Modele Clarke

These stories are about Soucayant, Largablest, Papa Bois, Hosay, to name a few. Some are scary but juicy and fun to read. ENJOY!

Ethiopia Speaks: The Italian Invasion 1935 - 1941

ISBN: 0-9662524-7-0 Available: July 2003

... It was at the time when the operations for the encircling of Makalle were taking place that the Italians fearing a rout, followed the procedure which is now my duty to denounce to the world. Special sprayers were installed on board aircrafts so that they could vaporize, over vast areas of territory, a fine death — dealing rain. Groups of nine, fifteen, eighteen aircrafts followed one another so that the fog issuing from them formed a continuous sheet. It was thus that, as from the end of January,1936, soldiers, women, children, cattle, rivers, lakes, and pastures were drenched continually with this deadly rain. In order to kill off systematically all living creatures, in order the more [move] surely poison waters, and pastures, the Italian command made the aircrafts pass over and over again. That was its chief method of warfare... The object was to scatter fear and death over a great part of the Ethiopian territory. These fearful tactics succeeded. Men and animals succumbed. The deadly rain that fell down from the aircraft made all those whom it touched fly shrieking with pain. All those who drank the poisoned water or ate the infected food also succumbed in dreadful suffering. In tens of thousands, the victims of the Italian mustard fell...
